Pair of Space Age, Garden Egg Chairs by Peter Ghyczy, Germany, 1970’s
PRICE ON REQUEST
Description
The pair of “Garden Egg Chairs” was designed by Peter Ghyczy in 1968 for the Reuter company in West Germany. However, due to high production costs, the design was sold, and production began at VEB Synthesewerk Schwarzheide in the 1970s in East Germany. This design became iconic for the Space Age style, a response to the fascination with space exploration following the first human journey into space in 1961. Both the shapes and materials were intended to evoke space-inspired themes. Originally designed for garden use, the chairs are now highly collectible items, often stored indoors to preserve their condition. The pair of chairs remains in their original, very good condition, with any visible defects shown in the photos, indicating that the first owner likely considered them too valuable for everyday use.
